## Accounts and payment

US applications go through [jlpt.us](https://jlpt.us/). You create an account during registration, not in advance. Previous-year accounts are removed, so a returning candidate still needs a new account for the current year.

A seat is secured only after the application and full credit-card payment are completed. If registering several people, each candidate needs a separate email address. Check that the confirmation shows the candidate’s name, level and site. Paid registrations cannot be transferred to another level, site or person.

JLPT Plus and MyJLPT in Japan do not register you for the US exam. Use the US registration service linked by AATJ.

## Check-in depends on the test site

All US levels take place on December 6, at roughly the same time, so you cannot take two levels. AATJ gives approximate check-in times of noon for most sites, 11 am on the West Coast and 9:30 am in Honolulu. These are planning estimates, not a replacement for your site’s final instructions.

Test vouchers and the 2026 site-specific room assignments and schedules are due in early November. Download your voucher from your account and read the [Test Day Info for your city](https://aatj.org/jlpt-us/). A PDF labelled 2025 is only a reference, even if it appears beside the 2026 site listing.

## Identification and minors

Bring the original, valid photo ID required by the US rules, with your name in English matching the registration. A passport, driver’s license or state-issued ID is accepted; photocopies are not. For candidates under 18, a current student ID with a name and photo is also accepted.

Atlanta does not accept candidates under 18. Houston, Middlebury, Monterey and Washington, DC require a minor consent form. Check these restrictions before choosing a site.

The US guide focuses on the ID you bring to the exam. Follow any photo-upload instructions shown by the US application form; do not prepare files to another country’s specifications.

## If you missed registration

The United States offers the JLPT once a year, in December. It does not hold a July sitting. Some Canadian cities offer July exams, but those have separate applications, fees and travel requirements.

For a Canadian test, use the [Canada registration guide](/en/blog/jlpt-2026-registration-canada). For another country, start with the [official list of local hosts](https://www.jlpt.jp/e/application/overseas_list.html).

As checked on October 12, 2026, the cited US pages do not provide a confirmed 2027 registration window. Wait for AATJ’s announcement rather than reusing the 2026 dates.
