2026 JLPT registration in New Zealand
Paper applications, local deadlines and fees
Dates and local hosts
| City | Official application page | Window |
|---|---|---|
| Auckland | Consulate-General of Japan | 3–25 August; received by 5 pm on the closing day |
| Christchurch | Consular Office of Japan | 3–25 August |
| Palmerston North | IPU New Zealand | 3–31 August |
Auckland and Palmerston North are listed for July and December in 2026. Christchurch is listed for December only. The country’s two annual sittings are therefore not available at every host.
Submitting the form and photos
Download the December application from the relevant host. Auckland requires all five form pages printed single-sided on A4, a handwritten signature, and two identical passport-size photographs attached to the voucher sections. Deliver the form by post or in person; emailing a scan does not count.
Christchurch also uses a paper form and two photographs, submitted by post or in person. Palmerston North asks for a prepaid return envelope with the completed form. Use the delivery address on the selected host’s page, since these applications do not go to one national office.
This route does not begin with a central JLPT account. Form delivery and payment are separate tasks, and both need to reach the host in time. A posting date is not proof that an application arrived before the deadline.
Fees and payment
| Level | Fee |
|---|---|
| N1 and N2 | NZ$110 |
| N3, N4 and N5 | NZ$95 |
Auckland and Christchurch specify bank transfer. Use the account and payment reference on the host’s current application page, and retain the receipt. Auckland requires both the form and payment by its deadline.
If results must be couriered overseas, the hosts quote different extra charges: NZ$40 for Auckland and NZ$30 for Christchurch. This is a result-delivery charge, not a higher examination fee.
Different times for each level
| Level | Arrival / check-in begins | First test section |
|---|---|---|
| N1 | 13:35 | 13:55 |
| N2 | 13:45 | 14:05 |
| N3 | 16:40 | 17:00 |
| N4 | 17:05 | 17:25 |
| N5 | 17:30 | 17:50 |
These times are local to New Zealand. Auckland publishes the same first-section times, with separate check-in windows on its page. Use the issued voucher and the host’s final instructions for the room, identification and entry deadline; do not arrive at the start of the first section.
Late applications and 2027
The December notices reviewed do not offer a separate late-application period. A deadline at Palmerston North does not extend Auckland’s deadline. The next New Zealand registration dates for 2027 were not confirmed in the official host notices checked on 12 October 2026.
