# 2026 JLPT registration in Malaysia

The December 2026 JLPT in Malaysia is on Sunday 6 December. The Japan Foundation, Kuala Lumpur announces registration from 17 August at noon to 31 August at 2 pm, Malaysian time. The JLSM application requires online payment and a Malaysian mailing address; no application photograph is needed.

Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Johor Bahru offer the July sitting. The official overseas list also includes Ipoh and Kota Kinabalu for December. Confirm the assigned venue with the local organiser; a test city is not a building address.

## Registration and payment are separate steps

Start with the [JLSM registration instructions](https://jlpt.jlsm.org/RegistrationNotice.aspx). Select a test site and level, enter personal details, then complete the Japanese-language background questions. The acknowledgement email contains the reference needed to check registration status.

The status check uses the registration reference, NRIC or passport number, and email address. JLSM does not confirm an application until online payment is received. After payment, the confirmation email includes the test voucher and candidate notice.

No photograph is required for this application. Results can only be sent to a Malaysian address. The chosen test site and level cannot be changed after submission, so check those fields before completing the form.

## Checking the fee for this sitting

A December 2026 fee schedule could not be verified from the accessible JLSM instructions and Japan Foundation announcement. Use the amount stated for the selected level in the current official application notice or payment screen. Older Malaysian announcements remain online, but their ringgit amounts are not confirmed prices for 2026.

The registration deadline is not a promise that a place remains available until that date. The notices reviewed do not announce a separate late-registration window.

## Use the candidate notice for test-day details

Check the voucher for the level, personal details, venue and reporting time. The public December announcement does not give a complete city-by-city timetable, so this guide does not assign a single national start time. An application that needs no photograph may still require identification on test day; follow the candidate notice for the accepted document.

JLSM requires electronic devices to stay switched off throughout the test, including breaks. Keep the voucher and any necessary directions available without relying on a phone.

## 2027 applications

Malaysia has July and December sittings, with fewer cities offering July. The official notices checked on 12 October 2026 did not yet confirm 2027 registration dates. Check the next dated Japan Foundation or JLSM notice before arranging payment or travel.
