Test information
2026 JLPT registration in Canada
Local hosts, registration windows and test-day arrangements
Choose a city before registering
| City | Official host | 2026 sittings |
|---|---|---|
| Vancouver | VJLS–JH | July and December |
| Edmonton | University of Alberta | July and December |
| Toronto | York University | December |
| Ottawa | Carleton University | December |
| London, Ontario | Huron University | December |
| Montreal | UQAM | December |
The two worldwide test dates do not mean every Canadian city offers both. In particular, Toronto’s December test is not a registration route for Vancouver’s July test.
Registration windows and time zones
| Host | Published window |
|---|---|
| Edmonton | September 8, 10 am to September 25, 4 pm (MDT) |
| Ottawa | September 8, 9 am to September 25, 11:59 pm (ET) |
| Vancouver | September 8, 10 am opening; September 25 listed closing date |
| Toronto, London and Montreal | September 8–25; consult the local host for hours |
Capacity limits can close registration before the published last day. Ottawa explicitly does not accept late applications. Do not assume a paid late-registration period is available in another city.
Fees and completed applications
The 2026 host pages for Edmonton, Ottawa, Vancouver and Montreal list a C$100 test fee. Check York and Huron directly for their payment instructions and current fee; the amount listed by another host is not a national price guarantee.
Each host runs its own form and payment process. Montreal, for example, does not consider registration complete until payment is confirmed. Creating a university or booking-system account alone does not reserve a JLPT seat. Keep the confirmation from the host you paid.
Test times and identification
Vancouver separates N1/N2 into the morning and N3–N5 into the afternoon. Ottawa publishes a different schedule: N1–N3 check in from 11:00 to 11:30 am, N4 from 11:20 to 11:50 am and N5 from 11:40 am to 12:10 pm. All times are local to the test city.
Download or print the voucher from your own host and follow its check-in time. Vancouver requires a valid government-issued photo ID with a name matching the voucher. Edmonton also asks for a physical government-issued photo ID. Photo and document requirements should be checked on the local form, not copied from a Japanese or Taiwanese application.
Accommodation deadlines can be earlier than general registration. Montreal’s 2026 deadline is September 11, while Ottawa’s is September 18. Contact the chosen host before its deadline if arrangements are needed.
The next application period
Vancouver says it will publish July 2027 registration information after the December 2026 exam. That statement is about Vancouver; it does not announce a July sitting for every Canadian city.
For the next round, check your host and the Japan Foundation, Toronto’s Canadian JLPT page. If you plan to test south of the border, use the separate United States guide.
